چکیده

Nanocomposites (NC) were formed using cationic poly(L-lysine) (PLL), a semicrystalline polypeptide, that was reinforced by sodium montmorillonite (MMT) clay via solution intercalation technique. By varying solution conditions such as pH, temperature, and polypeptide concentration in the presence of clay platelets, the secondary structure of PLL was controllably altered into a-helical, b-sheet, and random coil. The high molecular weight polypeptide shows a strong propensity to fold into the b-sheet structure when cast as films, irrespective of the initial secondary structure in solution. Nanocomposite local morphology confirms intercalated MMT platelets with PLL over a wide range of compositions. VC 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 45: 239–252, 2007

Polypeptide-Based Nanocomposite: Structure and Properties of Poly(L-lysine)/Na -Montmorillonite*

The feasibility of constructing polymer/clay nanocomposites with polypeptides as the matrix material is shown. Cationic poly-L-lysine HBr (PLL) was reinforced by sodium montmorillonite clay. The PLL/clay nanocomposites were made via the solution-intercalation film-casting technique. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy data indicated that montmorillonite layers intercalated wi...

Secondary Structure Effects on the Acidity of Histidine and Lysine-Based Peptides Model; A Theoretical Study

In this study, the effect of the secondary structure of the protein on the acid strength of three structures of random (R), alpha helix (α) and beta sheet (b) were investigated theoretically. These structures are related to the cationic amino acids of histidine and lysine in the polypeptide chain of eight-glycine residue. Computational methods at the HF, B3LYP, X3LYP and M05-2X levels in t...

Thermally Stable Poly(amide-imide)/Nanocomposites Reinforced Silicate Nanoparticles Containing Bicyclo Segment and Dibenzalacetone Moiety: Synthesis and Characterization

Two new samples of poly(amide-imide)/nanocomposites containing bicyclo segment and dibenzalaceton moiety in the main chain were synthesized by a solution intercalation technique. Poly(amide-imide) (PAI) 8 as a source of polymer matrix was synthesized by the direct polycondensation reaction of N,N´-bis(4-carboxyphenyl)bicyclo[2,2,2]oct-7-ene-2,3,5,6-tetracarboxylic diimide 3 with 2,6-bis(4-amino...

Preparation and Evaluation of Epoxy-Clay Nanocomposite Coatings for Corrosion Protection

Polymer-clay nanocomposite coatings have attracted much attention because of impressive enhancements of coating properties. In this research, both commercially available and isophoronediamine-modified montmorillonite clays were used to obtain epoxy-clay nanocomposite coatings. These nanocomposite materials with different clay loadings in the form of coatings were applied to cold-rolled steel (C...
